Some people look at a stark painting and say it looks like a photograph.

People look at Johnny Sutton’s photographs and say they look like paintings.

For good reason: Sutton took up photography at the start of this century after about two decades as a painter. He began his photography quests after an injury during the DeBruce grain elevator explosion in 1998.

Sutton has become somewhat of a regular at Final Fridays. Previous exhibits have explored reflections on water, the surfaces of plant leaves, and automobiles. His most recent exhibit,  “Images of Things on Earth,” was unveiled April 27, 2007, at the Fiber Studio.

Each month, the Fiber Studio combines exhibits of varying arts with fiber paintings and art-to-wear jewelry and clothing.

Often, Trevor Stewart is heard at the Fiber Studio playing the “Chapman Stick,” an unusual instrument consisting of a long fretboard with 12 strings that spans the ranges of bass and guitar.
