Delano
Delano used to be the wild side of town: a stop for brawling cowboys looking to shake off the dust from a long trail drive and let off some steam. Back in those wild days in the mid-19th Century, the Arkansas River served as a buffer between Delano and Wichita, where people were trying to carve out respectable lives. These days, Delano's renegade spirit comes from small entrepreneurs, opening specialty shops, piercing the center of endless strip malls dominated by chain stores. Many cater to the bohemian side of life, with art galleries and unique offerings. And there's a little bit of wild spirit still left: just check out the outfits at Savage Threads. Each Final Friday, the art crowd walk a the historic stretch of Douglas was once the Chisholm Trail.
