Tangent Lab showcases emerging talents in art, music and film. It also throws a boisterous party on Final Friday. But you might walk by it every day and not even know it’s there. Operated by graphic artist Brad Ruder, the two-year-old gallery usually has a sign out front on Final Fridays pointing the way. But just in case, here are directions, because you don't want to miss it. The Lab sits just south of Rock Island and First Street (where the Grant Telegraph building is). Under the “Rock Island Marketplace” sign, look for the door marked “143.” Climb the stairs or take the antique elevator and follow the sounds of youthful exuberance spilling into the hallways.

“My favorite type of exhibits have color and energy to them," Ruder says, "and the artwork exhibited tends to have more of an urban and unconventional edge.”
