About the site

Government agencies record a wealth of data about our schools. Almost all of that data is available to the public, although some parts are harder to track down than others. This project was started as an effort to bring together data from various sources and put it all in one place. The goal is to give community members a way to learn about every aspect of our schools. We hope to continually add more information to the site. If you're interested in contributing data, we would love to hear from you. Please email or call 316-268-6419.

About the data

The data that populates this site came from various public records. Most of it came from the Kansas State Department of Education. Health inspection data came from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

About the assessments

This site features data from the state assessments that Kansas students take each year. Students are tested in three subject areas: math (grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10), reading (grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 11) and writing (grades 5, 8, 11 and sometimes 12).

Once the assessments are graded, the state reports what percent of students fell into each of the following five categories: academic warning, approaches standard, meets standard, exceeds standard and exemplary. The Wichita Eagle combines the last three categories to determine the total percent of students who passed the assessment, and that's how we get the numbers on this site.

Attention school officials: We want this project to be as comprehensive as possible. We want your data. If you have information you'd like to contribute to this project, email us about it or call 316-268-6419.
